Weight Loss Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

HCG Diet

Who discovered the HCG diet?

The research of Dr Albert T W Simeons is responsible for the HCG diet. It is highly recommended that you read the full research “Pounds and Inches” before embarking on the TNH diet. It is very enlightening and will assist the impatient dieter to understand why this diet is as rigid as it is. Improvisation is strictly discouraged.

What is HCG and how does it work?

Human Chorionic Gonadatropin (Gonadatrophin) is a hormone produced during pregnancy. Its job is to ensure that the growing foetus is never short of nourishment. It does this by releasing energy from the woman’s stored abnormal fat. NB: The process of releasing stored fat works the same for MEN or WOMEN. It will not feminise a Man (see Men’s Health Page for more details)

Is Homeopathic TNH legal in Australia?

Yes. In Australia true homeopathics are TGA exempt and so are legal to produce and sell. In the USA homeopathics fall under the control of the FDA and late in 2012 they banned the use of HCG in homeopathic preparation in America. If you are sourcing your product from America be aware that it is probably a synthetic version of the HCG hormone and that customs may confiscate your purchase.

Trim N Healthy Diet

Wouldn’t I lose weight on such a low calorie diet (500cal) without the TNH Plus drops?

The TNH Plus triggers the release of between 2000 to 4500 calories of energy into your blood stream from your stored fat cells before you put any food in your mouth. This process helps you to function normally and have good energy levels with no hunger pangs. If you tried to just eat 500 calories without help from the TNH, your body would rebel, you would become weak and lethargic, the hunger would be intolerable and it would likely trigger your body to go into starvation mode. This mode triggers the body’s defences which start to burn muscle for energy to conserve the body fat. TNH Plus programs break this cycle which is present in most overweight or obese patients.

Does the TNH diet work for everyone?

The diet works for almost everyone…young, old, male, female. However, as is true with any treatment or medication, doctors find some patients do not respond as expected. So although TNH PLUS is effective for the great majority, we cannot make any promises that it will work for everyone, every time.

What is the hypothalamus?

The hypothalamus is a part of the diencephalon area of our brain. This is the vital part of the brain which controls all of the autonomic functions of the body, including breathing, heartbeat, digestion, sleep and the complex functions of the endocrine system. One of the many functions of the endocrine system is regulation and control of your metabolism and weight.

Where are Trim N Healthy TNH drops manufactured?

We source our TNH Plus drops from a lab in Queensland.
Homeopathic preparations are TGA exempt in Australia and can be legally sold in Australia and New Zealand. Our stock is held in Australia and sent via express post to Australia and via registered post to New Zealand.

Why TNH Plus drops?

TNH Plus drops work like the regular TNH drops, but they are even better! They include added support for controlling hunger, improving digestion, supporting the endocrine system, regulating appetite and normalizing metabolism with a mild diuretic. They release energy from stored fat into your bloodstream. It helps kick start your metabolism by signalling the body to burn more fat. It is a great formula for those wanting to lose between 7-15.kg in 3wks to 6 weeks.

Can I do the TNH Plus diet more than once?

This is best answered by Dr Simeons himself: “Patients requiring the loss of more than 15kg must have a second or even more courses. A second course can be started after an interval of not less than six weeks, though the pause can be more than six weeks. When a third, fourth or even fifth course is necessary, the interval between courses should be made progressively longer. Between a second and third course eight weeks should elapse, between a third and fourth course twelve weeks, between a fourth and fifth course twenty weeks and between a fifth and sixth course six months. In this way it is possible to bring about a weight reduction of 45kg and more if required without the least hardship to the patient.”
NB: If you have up to 15kg to lose, you may choose to do 2 x 26 day courses. The second course can be commenced after the Maintenance phase. (observe notes on Menstrual cycle) OR If you choose to start a 43-day course and decide half way to break the weight loss up into two 23-day courses instead, that is perfectly acceptable. Simply follow the instructions for completing the 26 day protocol. Never skip phase 3 maintenance, it is vitally important to establish the new set point.

How long can I stay on the TNH diet?

When a client has more than 7 kg to lose the treatment takes longer, but the maximum is 40 days of drops or 15kg of weight loss at a time. The drops are stopped at either 15kg or 40 days whichever comes first. The reason for limiting the drops to 40 days is that by then some patients may begin to show signs of immunity. After 40 days of drops, it takes about six weeks before this so-called immunity is lost and the TNH drops become fully effective again.

How can I survive on 500 calories per day?

You can’t. The TNH triggers your body to release between 1500 and 4000 calories per day into your bloodstream. It is these calories plus the 500 calories that are providing your daily energy.

Do I have to eat the starch (grissini sticks, melba toast, rice cake, rice crackers)?

Yes. You need to eat 2 serves of 15 cals per serve of starch. These can be eaten at any time through the day but they can not be skipped.

Do I need to eat both serves of fruit?

Yes. You need to eat 2 serves of fruit per day. They need to be 2 different fruits (eg apple and strawberries).

How do I calculate my 500 calories per day?

You need to calculate the calories for your 2 Protein (meat), 2 Fruit, 2 Starch and Milk choices. You then need to make up the balance of calories between your 2 serves of vegetables. This is because there is a big difference in calories for some of the meat and fruit choices.
Eg. In a day you may choose 100g chicken (110 cal) plus 100g of fish (110 cal) plus 150g of strawberries (30 cal) plus 1 apple (90cal) plus 2 serves of grissini sticks (30 cal) plus 1tbl milk (9 cal). You need to add up these calories to be able to work out how much of each vegetable you will need to eat. In this example you have a total of 379 calories so your vegetables have to make up the remaining 121 calories. This might be 4 medium tomatoes (76 cals) plus 2 cups of zucchini (40 cal). Grand total = 495 calories (close enough). The vegetable portion sizes in the User Guide need to be adjusted to ensure that you eat 500 calories.

Why am I so hungry?

You should not be hungry on our program. Ring or email if the following tips do not solve the problem.
Are you eating a total of 500 calories per day? Make sure you increase your vegetable portions accordingly to make up your daily allocation of 500 calories.
Are you making sure that you do not eat or drink 15-20 minutes either side of the drops?
Did you load adequately (Loading is a very important step in the program)?
Have you been taking any oil based vitamins or supplements (eg. Krill oil, Vitamin E)?
Are you doing strenuous exercise? The program is designed to incorporate light exercise eg. Walking, yoga (not Bikram), Pilates.

What happens if I reach my goal weight before the scheduled end of the program?

If you reach your goal weight and you are on the 26 day Program you need to keep taking the drops for at least 18 days. Increase your daily calorie intake to 1000 (choosing foods from the ‘Allowed Food List’. On day 19 stop taking the drops and transition into the Maintenance Phase 2 days later.
If you are on the 43 Day Program and you reach your goal weight, stop the drops, remain on the VLCD for 2 days then go onto Maintenance for as many days as you were on the drops. Minimum time frame on the drops – 18 days. Maximum time frame on the drops – 43 days.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

Weight loss varies from 250gm – 1kg per day. Average weight loss 300 – 550 gm per day. In 3 weeks it is not uncommon to lose 7kg, and in 6weeks 15kg is attainable.Maintenance Phase 2 days later.
If you are on the 43 Day Program and you reach your goal weight, stop the drops, remain on the VLCD for 2 days then go onto Maintenance for as many days as you were on the drops. Minimum time frame on the drops – 18 days. Maximum time frame on the drops – 43 days.

Trim and Healthy Diet and Men

Can men take the TNH Drops?

Yes, definitely. Most men experience better than average weight loss on the TNH Program.

Is it safe for Men to go on the TNH Plus Diet?

Absolutely, men often lose weight faster than women and get even better results. (Refer Mens Health Page)

Will men take on any feminine traits while I am on the TNH Program?

No. The hormone produced is a naturally occurring hormone in both men and women. One of its jobs in men is to ensure that muscle would not be cannibalised in a situation where starvation was imminent (eg: stranded on a desert island with little or no food). The hormone would trigger energy from stored fat to be released.

Loading Phase

Why do I have to eat so much on the first 2 days of the drops?

This is best answered by Dr Simeon himself.  “Most patients who have been struggling with diets for years and know how rapidly they gain if they let themselves go are very hard to convince of the absolute necessity of gorging for at least two days, and yet this must he insisted upon categorically if the further course of treatment is to run smoothly…. Four to six pounds in 24 hours is not unusual – but after a day or two this rapid gain generally levels off. In any case, the whole gain is usually lost in the first 48 hours of dieting. It is necessary to proceed in this manner because the gain re-stocks the depleted normal reserves, whereas the subsequent loss is from the abnormal deposits only.”

Do I take the drops on the two loading days?

Yes. It is important to take the drops while you are loading because the TNH will take 2 days to start working effectively.

Why do I have to load (eat more than I normally eat)?

Loading gives your body a head start on the required energy for the first couple of days of the VLCD (very low calorie diet). Loading will ensure a smooth transition into the diet phase.

Do I have to eat junk food (cakes, hot chips, alcohol) on the loading days?

No. You can load on nuts, avocados, starchy vegetables (eg. potato, pumpkin, sweet potato), dried fruit, dairy etc. BUT…. if you like you can also have cream buns, alcohol and hot chips and gravy.

Will I put weight on in the Loading Phase?

Yes. Most trimmers put on weight over these 2 days but it is soon lost once you go onto the next phase (VLCD). This is perfectly normal and to be expected.

What will happen if I don’t load?

Loading prepares the body for the next phase (VLCD). If you don’t load you may feel hungry and tired and it may take longer for your weight loss to begin. Loading will give you the best chance of success so do not skip these 2 days.

Maintenance Phase

Do I have to take the Maintenance Drops while I am in the Maintenance Phase?

No. It is a recommendation only. We have found that many trimmers like to take the Maintenance drops as they help with cravings and hunger and also provide emotional support.

How do I work out how many calories to eat per day during Maintenance?

Most trimmers will sit between 1400 -2400 calories per day. The variables are age, height, gender, goal weight and exercise regime. There are many calculators available on the web (Search daily calorie counter).  www.freedieting.com has a good one.

Why is my weight fluctuating while on the Maintenance Phase and is this ok?

Some Trimmers will experience 200-300g fluctuations daily while on the Maintenance Phase. Sometimes up and sometimes down. This is quite normal so don’t be alarmed.
What you want to be looking at is which way your weight is trending each week. If at the end of the first week you have gained a little weight overall then you may want to cut back on your daily calorie allocation or increase your exercise regime.
If your weight is trending down after the first week you probably need to increase your daily calorie intake.

Vegetarians and Vegans

Can a Vegetarian or a Vegan do the TNH Weight Loss Program?

Yes. We have provided Vegetarian and Vegan options in the ‘Allowed Foods’ List.

Just a disclaimer here; the original research does not really provide for Vegetarians or Vegans. The listed options have been researched and are suggestions from Vegetarians who have had success on the diet using these foods. Results may vary from those stated on the website.

Why are the choices for Vegetarians so limited?

Protein sourced from vegetables have a high complex carbohydrate component so to get the required protein percentage the calories are quite high. This makes keeping to the 500 calories per day difficult.

How much B12 do you need to use per day and how do you measure it?

The correct dose per day of the B12 is 1ml. This does not have to be exact. When you squeeze the rubber bulb at the top of the dropper and release it you will draw approx. 1ml of liquid into the dropper. This is equivalent to one daily dose.

Can I have more than 1ml per day of the B12 (more than 1 dose)?

Having 2 x 1ml doses of B12 per day will not harm you. If your system does not need 2 doses it will just excrete the excess.

Do I have to leave a 20min window before and after taking the B12?

No. The B12 is not a homeopathic preparation. Still place the drops under your tongue for fast absorption but you can eat or drink straight away.

Can I take the B12 drops at the same time as the TNH drops?

No. The TNH drops are homeopathic and need a 20min window either side of taking them when you do not eat or drink. This includes the B12 drops.

Can I use sugar substitutes (Stevia, Equal, Natvia, Aspartame, Xylitol, Sucralose, Splenda)?

No. We recommend that you try to avoid all kinds of sugar substitutes. There are 2 issues to consider. The first is that our brain sees sugar as energy but sugar substitutes contain little or no energy. When we crave sugar we actually need energy which we usually interpret as something sweet. Feeding a craving with a no or low energy food is confusing. Our body does not get the required energy so it just craves for more. The second issue is taste. Most processed foods contain sugar so our taste buds are very conditioned to sugar. If you can do the program without using sugar substitutes your taste buds will change and you will be less likely to need added sugar or sugar substitutes once you are finished.
